Robb Bomboy
Robb Bomboy’s work examines the nature of humanity in a digital world. He questions how the reflection of self is constructed digitally. The artist is fascinated that given a blank space to start over, the intention has typically been to recreate what we already have. We take reference of the world around us and copy it in a virtual world with a goal of realism and believability.
No materials are available in the virtual world for the digital artist. As God did not collect and refine materials to create the universe, so too the artist must invent form from nothing. Point by point, the structural contour emerges. The generation of the human form is elemental. Robb’s sculptural work transforms digital data to enter the physical world by a strand of plastic to generate form. He uses traditional materials to blend the virtual creation with the physical world.
Robb’s work is inspired by ancient and classical history, art, and literature. Humanists created works to represent metaphysical ideas and mythological stories. They worked in unknown territory and left behind a lasting legacy. Robb’s work teases the relationship between the past and the future. The ever-enduring ancient stories and beliefs are represented in a new and virtual world.
